Bara Imambara Travel Guide

One of the most visited places of Lucknow, this is an ‘imambara’ built in the year 1874 by the Nawab of Awadh, Asaf-Ud-Daula. Soon, after that this became the centre of attraction of Lucknow. The place is also sometimes called as Asafi imambara. The word Asafi means large or big, and any shrines made by a Shuri Muslim is called an imambara.

Structure Of Bara Imambara

Being one of the grandest buildings of Lucknow, this place is perfectly structured. The hall of the building is said to be the largest hall of the world for any building. It also has a running-water well inside the structure.

Bara Imambara is also known for its maze or ‘Bhul Bhulaiya’. It is said that all the first timers are bound to get lost in this maze, which is located in the upper floor of this structure. It is always recommended to hire a guide and take a look at the panoramic view of the city from this ‘bhul bhulaiya’
