Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park, Ranchi is one of the most beautiful zoos in India, located in the lap of a beautiful natural surrounding.

Unlike most of the zoos, it covers over 104 ha. of mildly undulating topography with natural dry deciduous forest, in and around water bodies and other natural features that provide the wild animals natural habitat to live in harmony with the nature.

It is situated on the Ranchi-Ramgarh section of National Highway 33, about 20 kms from Ranchi & in the vicinity of Chakla village, Block-Ormanjhi, Dist-Ranchi, Jharkhand. The National Highway segments the site in two unequal halves, the smaller section being the botanical section and the larger one being zoological section.

It was dedicated to the public on 26th January, 1994. Around 4 lakh visitors visit the zoo every year. Most of the inmates of this Biological Park live in open, large moated areas surrounded by natural vegetation. This gives them a feeling of living in their natural habitat.

A central ring road runs within the Park and covers most of the area of Park. On the South-eastern side, beyond the park boundary, lies a large water storage body called the Getalsud dam, which supplies water to Ranchi. A local seasonal river, called Sapahi, encircles the Biological Park on its western, south-western, south and south-eastern sides.

The land on which the Biological Park has been established is a protected forest belonging to the Government of Jharkhand.

Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park has been established with the objective of conserving endangered and threatened flora and fauna; developing among visitors an empathy for wild animals; and motivating people to support the cause of wildlife conservation.
