Ganga Aarti Travel Guide

Every evening, as dusk descends, it's time for the Ganga Aarti to be performed in the holy city of Haridwar at Har Ki Pauri. Ganga Arti means worship of Ganga. The aarti takes place facing the river. The lamps are lit and circled around by the pundits in a clockwise manner, accompanied by chanting of hymns or singing of songs in praise of Mother Ganga. Legend has it that some nectar landed there after falling from a pot carried by the celestial bird Garuda. There are a couple of options for attending the aarti, best is to just to sit on the steps and watch it from a distance, like most people.
