Nawalgarh Travel Guide

A fascinating town, situated north of Sikar, Nawalgarh founded in 1737 by Nawal Singh. It has a college with a very British style clock tower and hundreds of painted havelis, old and new. Many of the better known Rajasthani merchant families come from here. The thakurs or the nobles of Nawalgarh had great passion for buildings. Many structures of the early 20th century still stand. Among them is Roop Niwas, where tourists can stay. Other prominent havelis like Anandilal Poddar Haveli, Aath Haveli, Hodh Raj Patodia Haveli, are worth a visit.
