Turkish Gate or Rumi Darwaza, located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh is a grand gate, which was built by Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula in the year 1784. This is a complete example of a great Awadhi architectural structure. This is basically an entrance gate for city of Lucknow. The gate is about 60 feet tall with some of the best artworks present in it. The gate comprises an umbrella, which is pretty high than that of the building structure. This Chhatri or Umbrella can be well accessed with the staircases there.
The name ‘Rumi’ has came from Rome, which was then the Istanbul. This is because; Istanbul had a very familiar gate in that period of time.
