Shitla Mandir Travel Guide
Sheetla Mata Mandir is a major Hindu pilgrimage dedicated to Bhagat Lalita Maa and Masani Maa. In fact, the word Sheetala refers to the disease smallpox. It is believed that if the deity is invoked with utmost faith, she dispels the disease. During the month of Chaitra (March – April), hordes of devotees flock to this religious place for the mundan ceremony (the first hair cutting ceremony) of their children. After this, they offer the crop of hair at the altar of the goddess. Among other visitors, during the Hindu festivities, high attendance of married couples can also be seen to invoke the blessings of the goddess for a happy married life.
