The Chandel district of Manipur (formerly known as Tengnoupal) came into existence on 13th of May, 1974. Chandel in Manipur lies in the south-eastern part of Manipur, in north east India. Chandel is shares its international boundary with Myanmar (erstwhile Burma) on the south. Chandel Manipur is domesticated by several communities. Manipur Chandel is sparsely inhabited by about 20 various tribes. The different communities are spread all over the Chandel district in Manipur. Prominent tribes inhabiting the district are - Anal, Lamkang, Kukis, Moyon, Monsang, Chothe, Thadou, Paite, and Maring etc. There are also other communities like Meiteis, and Muslims in small numbers as compared to the tribes.
