The place has various assumptions regarding its origin. According to Jana-shrutis, it is said that Hapur was founded by Raja Harishchandra. Another local legend says that it was founded by Daron Ke Sardar, Hardatta in 1983. Some believe that it got its name from the word ‘hapar’ which means garden. Today it is known as a manufacturing hub for stainless steel pipes and tubes and also has a thriving wood products manufacturing industry. Land is very fertile for growing crops, like wheat, sugarcane and vegetables.
