Blessed with pleasant climate, the city is known as “mushroom city of India” due to its vast mushroom farming. It is named after goddess Soloni Maa whose temple is built in the southern end of the town. It is well known for its brewery started in 1835 with Anglo-German co-operation. This brewery is known as Dyer-Meakin Brewery which produces excellent beer and quality whisky. Few good temples and monasteries are located in the region that can be visited by those who are spiritually inclined.
