Gangotri Temple
Gangotri temple originally built by the Gurkha general Amar Singh Thapa after he fought the British in the nineteenth century. The white marble temple in Gangotri looks splendid in the background of the lofty green mountains and the majestic Ganges. Gangotri temple is very closed to the Bhagirath shila, and situated on the the bank of River Bhagirathi.
Tourists will often come across Hindu sages wearing saffron clothes, mendicants sitting by the roadside for alms, and locals selling trinkets from makeshift tents. The air reverberates with chants of devotional songs. Tourism in Gangotri is flourishing, and people have erected double and triple storeyed houses to accommodate the multitude of visitors thronging to this holy place.

There are various pujas perform in Gangotri temple for goddess Ganga. Mangal Aarti perform in morning while Shayan Aarti perform in evening time daily. Ganga Devi puja perform in day time. Puja perform at the river Bhagirathi bank along with temple. Pujas perform by pujaris who are the administrator of this place and had religious rites for worship in temple.

Gangotri temple is located at height of approx. 3100 mts on the Himalayan range in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Gangotri considered as the main Dham from char dham Yatra (Yamunotri, Badrinath, and Kedarnath). Gangotri lie at the distance of 105 km from Uttarkashi, 250 km from Rishikesh and 300 km from Dehradun.

By Air: Jolly Grant, Dehradun is the nearest airport for Gangotri. Which is located at 26 km from Dehradun city.
By Train: Rishikesh is only nearest railway station for Gangotri. After reaching Rishikesh railway station you can opt any private vehicles or bus to reach Gangotri temple which is approx. 244 kms away from Gangotri. Haridwar is also nearest railway station to reach Gangotri.
By Road: Gangotri is well connected via rod from Rishikesh, Dehradun, Kotdwar, Haridwar, Barkot and Yamunotri, Tehri and Uttarkashi.

Gangotri in Summers: Summers make the best time to visit Gangotri that starts from April till May before the onset of monsoon in June. The weather in summer is cool and winters are unbearably cold. The gates of Gangotri temple open during the start of summers. The temperature is pleasant staying up to 25°C maximum and can get very cold at night. This is the best season for pilgrimage and sightseeing trips.
Gangotri in Monsoons: Monsoon season is very hectic for Gangotri pilgrims. Due to heavy rain fall from July to August many landslides happen in this duration. We suggest pilgrims to avoid Gangotri Dham Yatra during this season. Especially between July to August month.

Gangotri Temple: Gangotri Temple is the highest temple of Goddess Ganga and one of the four dhams of Uttarakhand state. Gangotri is situated at an altitude of 3,048mts above sea level. Gangotri offers scenic splendors of rugged terrains, gushing water of Bhagirathi River and snow clad peaks. The place holds great importance amongst Hindus. Gangotri remains opened from May and get closed on the day of Diwali festival.
Bhairon Ghati: Near the confluence of Jat Ganga and Bhagirathi River lies a scenic Bhairon Ghati. It is located 10kms from Gangotri. The temple of Bhairav Nath is surrounded by dense forest. Bhairon Temple can be reached after traveling by road from Lanka to Bhairon ghati and by crossing the Jahanvi River on foot.
Submerged Shivling: A natural rock Shivling submerged under water is an attractive tourist spot of Gangotri. It can be easily seen when winters are on their way because the water level decreases during this period. According to myths and legends this was the place where Lord Shiva was sitting when he received Ganga in his matted locks.
Tapovan: You can proceed to Tapovan and Nandanvan after reaching Gaumukh Glacier. Astounding views of Shivling and other major peaks of the Garhwal Himalayas are distinctly visible from Tapovan.
Gaumukh: Gaumukh is located at the height of 4238 Mts. from Gangotri. And can be reached there by 18 km trek from Gangotri.
